Prosecution’s case/defense response: Gregory was convicted of the rape, robbery, and murder of his neighbor, Geneine Harshfield (age 43), who was stabbed repeatedly after returning home from work. The murder went unsolved for two years until Gregory was arrested for rape and produced a DNA match. Harshfield was found in her kitchen with her hands tied behind her back, stabbed and with her throat slashed. Due to judicial and prosecutorial error, the state Supreme Court overturned his first death sentence.
