Sentenced to death in Federal Court, District of Massachusetts
By: jury
Date of crime: 4/15/13
Prosecution’s case/defense response: Tsarnaev was part of the Boston Marathon bombing. The jury agreed that Tsarnaev intentionally put the bomb in front of the Forum Restaurant. This bomb resulted in the death of Martin Richard, 8 years old, and Lingzi Lu, 23 years old. Tamerlan, Tsarnaev’s brother, placed a bomb outside Marathon Sports that killed Krystle Campbell and played a significant role in MIT police Officer Sean Collier. The defense listed 21 mitigating factors including: Tsarnaev was 19 at the time, he had no history of violent behavior, his teachers believed he was kind and hard-working, his friends described him as caring and respectful, he was influenced by his brother, and other factors. Tsarnaev did not show any bit of remorse or sympathy in court, however, the defense had a nun testify that she visited him five times and he did indeed feel remorse.
