Prosecution’s case/defense response: Johnson forced his girlfriend to invite her friend, Rachel Rogers, over. He intended to rape and kill Rogers. He threatened to kill his girlfriend and her daughter if she did not invite Rogers over. Johnson’s now ex-girlfriend testified that Johnson raped her and Rogers at knifepoint and then tied the women up and beat them with metal objects. Johnson crushed Rogers’ face with a dumbbell weight. Johnson’s attorney urged the jury to not choose the death penalty and stated that Johnson was “damaged goods.” The attorney stated that Johnson had “intermittent explosive disorder” due to his troubling childhood.
