Prosecution case/defense response: McVay sneaked under the garage door of the home of Maybelle Schein. He stabbed her to death and stole her car. He drove to Wisconsin as part of a plan to eventually get to Washington, D.C. to assassinate the President. McVay had a long history of non-violent drug-related convictions. The defense presented evidence that McVay had a terrible childhood, mental problems, addictions, and was under the influence of cold pills and alcohol when he killed the victim.
