Prosecution’s case/defense response: Ray was found to be the mastermind behind the shooting deaths of Javad Marshall-Fields (age 22) and his fiancée, Vivian Wolfe (age 22). Marshall-Fields had been scheduled to testify against Ray in a 2004 murder in a nearby park. Sir Mario Owens, the triggerman, was convicted of killing the couple and was sentenced to death. Additionally, Parish Carter (age 28) was sentenced to life in prison for driving the getaway car and was already in prison for crimes not related to the shootings during the trial. The prosecution argued because Ray stalked Marshall-Fields and staked out his apartment prior to the murder, as well as Marshall-Fields being a witness, was too heinous of a crime to allow Ray to live.
