Bryan Hall — white, age 28

Sentenced to death in Clark County, Nevada
By: a jury
Date of crime: May 2009
Prosecution’s case/defense response: Hall claimed that Brad Flemm (age 27) made a derogatory remark about his girlfriend, which prompted Hall to pummel him with his fists, strangle him with his necktie, beat him in the head with a rock and paint bucket, and slit his throat twice. Hall was charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. The jury found two aggravating factors that led to the death sentence, that Hall tortured and mutilated Flamm, and he was convicted of felony battery with substantial bodily harm. Attorneys for Hall claimed the killing was done in the heat of passion and that Hall should therefore receive a second-degree murder conviction. Prosecutors claimed Hall had a vicious jealous streak and that Flamm had a previous sexual relationship with Hall’s girlfriend.
